When going to college there are two main goals that each student should aspire to achieve. First is of course to learn or get educated and second is to earn a college diploma. To me the first goal is more important but lets face it in this world the second is often just as important.

Getting a college degree is not the only way to get ahead in this world but it is a prerequisite to getting ahead in some industries and definitely helps pave the way for most. Even in cases where you plan on being self-employed a college education is still helpful especially if you plan on setting up your own business. Without a college degree you can’t even apply in some jobs. In many cases not having a college degree also means being stuck in an entry level position. In the rare situations where a college degree is not a requirement for promotion you will still find that the promotions only go so far until again a someone with a college degree is required to fill in the next higher position. Without a college diploma you just have to admit that career advancement is a lot harder task and the future is just a bit less bright.

Setting the world’s standards aside, attending college is truly profitable even if there were no diplomas involved. When you go to college new horizons are opened to you and you get to absorb more and more knowledge that might or might not be useful to you someday. This knowledge will further equip you in your job, handling day to day activities, and even simply help you learn to appreciate things in life maybe it be from the poems you read or the complexity of nature. Things that you learn in college might not at once be evidently useful but in the future you just might be surprised at how much you actually learn from attending college.

Furthermore college doesn’t just teach you facts and figures but it should also teach you how to learn and get an education beyond what it has taught you so far. This is where a college education becomes priceless because to be able to learn from everything means that there is simply no stopping you from being better and wanting to be better.
