A Few University Updates Around the World
WHEN one graduates from high school, he or she has a dilemma to face – to get a job or to pause his or her dreams for profit and continue going to college. If one goes to college, there will surely be costs for the tuition and other miscellaneous expenses. Of course, there’s the question of boarding and the hidden and indirect costs that go with it. There’s the everyday expense in terms of meals.
And then, one has to pay for utilities too in the dormitory that one is staying. Utilities for example consist of water, electricity, phone landlines and mobile lines, wired or wireless Internet connection, cable television and the like. Electricity will surely be a very big headache because being still a teenager, one has to incur use of electricity like DVD players, subwoofer systems and game consoles in one’s rented condo suite. And then there’s the problem of choosing a roommate. Then there’s also the laboratory fee in school. Of course, if one doesn’t go to college, he or she can easily have a job which can already support him or herself. But nothing really beats college education. That’s why every high school graduate around the world craves to pay tuition in any form that he can get – whether through academic or varsity scholarship or through student loans. There’s also another alternative to get to college – to go to a community college for two academic years with your tuition to be subsidized by the state government. Of course, you have to pass the entrance exam for that. Graduates of community colleges can often immediately pass past the college admissions staff often at just the blink of an eye because they are perceived to be more diligent students than the rest of the applicants.
And so, here’s a piece of news. Kansas has reached its 90000th enrollee for the first time. There were 557 additional enrollees for this academic year, up from 89,506 students from the same period last year. But most of these 557 new enrollees are not residents of Kansas though. This is a testament that Kansas has among the best quality education this country can provide. Among the universities and colleges included in the data are Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Pittsburgh State University, Wichita University and the University of Kansas.
Meanwhile, in nearby Canada, data have found out that the number of female enrollees have overtaken the number of male enrollees in college. Most of these female students are taking up medical-related fields such as being doctors, dentists, pharmacists, medical transcribers, physical therapists, nurses and midwives. The data in Canada are not isolating. More and more college students in the world have joined the fray in enrolling for both long-term and short-term medical courses, either online or through the traditional classroom setting. From Hawaii to the Philippines, from Wichita to Washington, these medical students are inspired by such Emmy-award winning dramas as Grey’s Anatomy and ER. Besides, hospitals in the United States are having a growing demand for medical practitioners.
